What and how much is my child supposed to practice?

The practice requirement is 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Which five days is up to you. Students may and I highly encourage them to practice more than 20 minutes in a day and more than 5 days. If they do, they receive extra credit. However, they cannot practice for longer amounts of time each day to make up for less days (i.e. - 4 days with a total of 100 minutes in a week) without prior teacher approval. If this practice schedule is not possible because of involvement in other activities, please talk to me about it - student or parent - and we will reach a solution.

What activities outside of school time is my child required to do?

All Band students are required to attend all rehearsals for every band that they are in. If they are in Honors Band, they are required to be at each rehearsal for example. Every band student is either in Beginning Band (1st year), Intermediate Band (2nd year) or Advanced Band (8th grade - 2nd or 3rd year) and they are required to be at the Winter and Spring Concerts and any after school dress rehearsals for their band. Honors Band, Jazz Band, Drumline and Marching Band have additional rehearsals. A schedule for these rehearsals can be found in the calendar given to students at the beginning of each month and on this website.

What is the uniform?

Concerts:
Honors Band - dress uniform (provided by the school), black shoes and socks
Others Bands - white button-up, collared dress shirt (short or long sleeves), black dress pants, black dress shoes, black socks. Ladies may wear a black skirt but it must be past the knees when sitting with black, skin tone, or no hose.

Informal (football games and any other events that are announced as informal):
Band shirt or sweatshirt and jeans.
